Vienna Virginia, the question is how could something 12 inches tall and is soft and squishy be so supportive to someone?  Well, it is easy, it’s Tommy!

The Tommy Moose® program aids in helping children overcome fears and anxiety during times of stress. Donated to Law Enforcement, Fire, and other Emergency workers, Tommy Moose plush dolls are presented to children in various traumatic situations. In addition to this service, the Tommy Moose character has grown to personify happiness, safety, and security through personal appearances, books, and children's goods.

On Sunday, July 6, 2019, the Vienna Moose Lodge donated a batch of Tommy Moose to the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.  In attendance for the donation was Carl Thomas (Administrator), Daniel Sullivan (Governor), Jeff Sargent (Fairfax County Fire Marshall) and John Morrison (Vienna Volunteer Fire Department).  We invited Jeff and John to come to share breakfast during our lodge breakfast and made this valuable donation.  We want to thank Jeff Sargent and John Morrison for coming.  We really enjoyed talking to them about all the good Tommy makes in the community.

Tommy originated as a Moose community service project in Connecticut and soon spread throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since 2002, more than 150,000 Tommy Moose plush dolls have been donated to shelters, hospitals, and emergency workers, who in turn deliver them to children in need of some comfort when facing some of life’s biggest challenges. So, it is with pride that our lodge in cooperation with all its members donated two dozen Tommy Moose plush dolls to the Vienna Fire Department.  It feels good to donate these Tommy Moose for such a good cause.

So, you have joined the Moose, now what?  The Moose has a very storied past and an exciting future with you helping!  In the past, there was an initiation that was done to help you the new member know the story of the Moose.  But as things change, many things stay the same including your need to know about what you have embarked on.  The Moose is a family fraternity that helps kids, seniors, and our communities in which we live.

To help you on your way within the fraternity, we have set up a new member orientation program.  We have set ours up to happen during our lodge breakfasts that happen the first Sunday of each month.  Now, we will not be doing this during each breakfast.  We will be doing six all year long.  So, you can choose which one that is convenient for you.  We invite you and anyone you wish to bring as a guest.

All we ask is you come to find out more about this exciting fraternity that was found on Thursday, April 12, 1888.

The Vienna Moose Lodge is having a Belmont Stakes Viewing Party on June 8th, 2019, starting at 4:00 pm.  We know you will not want to miss this event.  We invite you to wear your favorite horse race attire too!  The lodge will be having some great food, cold drinks, and more this day.

We hope you will join us and stay for our Karaoke this night! We cannot wait to see everyone. This event is open to members and qualified guests.

The Vienna Moose is your new home for Sunday Breakfasts.  Do you like omelets or egg served to order? Do you like your bacon served crunchy, or your sausage perfectly prepared?  We will also have French Toast and Country Gravy and Bisquets. Starting this month and going forward, we will be having breakfast at the lodge on the first Sunday of each month from 9:00 am to Noon.

We will also be having specials on Mimosas and Bloody Marys!  We look forward to having you join us soon!

The Vienna Moose is joining the Beltway Baggers and Mid-Atlantic Cornhole in holding Cornhole at our lodge on Tuesday Nights. We will be having a special food menu each night starting at 5:30 pm. We invite all members and qualified guests to come to play. During the starting of this event, we will be having a special membership drive to sign up new members. For more information please contact a lodge member. This is going to be a blast! Do you want to practice your game, come during the week and try your hand at throwing bags!

Margaritas, Jimmy Buffett music, Reggae Music, and a chill atmosphere.  What could be better? Well, we will be hosting a Margaritaville Party on Saturday, June 22, 2019. We invite you and your guests to come chill and have cold drinks and some great food while listening to some really good music.  The fun starts at 2:00 pm and goes till we are finished. We cannot wait to see you all!

The Vienna Moose announces that it will be holding Karaoke for its members and qualified guests the second Saturday of each month! Maybe you like to sing difficult songs like "Tequila" or Pat Benatar's "Best Shot", or something more original!  Well, the lodge is your place on the first Saturday of each month.  Come join your fellow members and qualified guests and have a grand time! Tell your friends! We hope to see you for a night of fun. We cannot wait to see everyone!

Rolling Thunder has been a huge part of the Northern Virginia experience for as many years as I can remember.  We are sad to see it end.  But to help celebrate what Rolling Thunder has come to mean, the Vienna Moose Lodge invites all members and qualified guests to attend this last hurrah with some good food, cold drinks, great music, and more this coming Memorial Day weekend.  So on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, we will be BBQing and having a great time.  We will be updating this article with more information as it becomes available.  We cannot wait to see everyone!  We will also be updating Facebook too!

Do you make great Chili?  Do you like great chili?  Well here is your chance to make and try great chili!  On April 6, 2019, the lodge is hosting the Virginia Moose District 4’s second annual Chili Cook-Off featuring some of the greatest chilies from around the district.  This competition is held to find out who makes the best chili and to enter that lodge’s member into the Virginia Moose competition at the Lynchburg-South Family Moose Center #1727 on Saturday, September 21, 2019.  The winner of the Virginia Moose competition will go on to compete in the Moose International competition on the grounds of Moosehaven in Florida in an event sanctioned by the International Chili Society.  For more information about the International Chili Society please click on this link.

The place to be on Thursday's is here at the Vienna Moose Lodge.  Starting at 7:00 pm, we hold our weekly Trivia Night!  Teams or individuals are asked questions on Geography, Entertainment, History, Art and Literature, Science and Nature, and Sports and Leisure.  What are the questions like?

You might be asked, "What is the actual color of the sun?" "Which computer company introduced the mouse?" "Which craft includes a garter, purl, and stockinette?" "In Greek mythology, who is the goddess of wisdom?"

Do you think you have the answers?  Did you think we were going to tell you how to win?  Come on down each Wednesday and try your skills against the lodge's best brains!  We hope to see you soon!

If you are following the news and activities for St. Patrick’s Day this year, you will want to put the following event on your calendar!  The Vienna Moose is hosting Mary Lou and the Drugstore Lovers this year for a St. Patrick’s Day!

The lodge will be having a great band that plays plenty of dance music for the Green day!  Not only that we will be having a great buffet of Irish food for everyone to enjoy.  The price for this event is $20 dollars per person and includes dinner and music!  So, grab your dancing shoes and lace them up tight for a fun night with friends!

Hey everyone, if you have not been to the lodge in some time, we have added another activity!  The Vienna Moose Lodge invites you to attend one of our Cornhole Tournaments starting on Tuesday, January 15 and going forward each Tuesday night.  We already have a great crew coming to play.  We are also holding a Membership Drive for the first month of play.  If a new member joins during this time, he or she will receive one or two extra years of membership for the price of one year’s membership.  We want to thank Newmarket Entertainment for helping in this short time membership drive.

Are you new to playing cornhole?  We will be having a social league each week if enough players want!  We have some pro-players each week helping to instruct new players.  It is a lot of fun and to have new members helping new players is a huge bonus! 

We are also having a new food menu for the games each week.  We hope you will join us for a night of fun, food, and a meeting of new friends!  You can find more cornhole events on the Beltway Baggers Facebook page too!

The Vienna Moose is holding a New Year's Eve party and you are going to want to be here!  The party music is from the Rusty Highway Band and the catering will be done by Gwen!  We are inviting the PUBLIC too!  So we have the music, the food, and the place to dance the night away!  The only thing not stated is the Toast at midnight!  Yes, we will have a toast!  The price to attend is 30 dollars an individual and 50 dollars a couple.

• The Rusty Highway Band from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am
• Food starts at 7:00
• Doors Open at 6:30 pm

The menu for this New Years Night is...

• Seafood chowder
• Caesar salad 
• Mixed green salad
• Cilantro lime beef tips over pasta
• Crab Newburg, rice pilaf, veggies 
• and assorted desserts

As always, we are asking for help from the membership.  If you think you can help please let an officer, the administrator, or someone in the Social Quarters know.  We would really appreciate the help with the many tasks to do this night!  Thanks in advance!

As many of you have seen around the lodge, our lodge has sponsored many little league teams over the years.  This year is no different.  We just got a thank you letter from our team the "Moose Stripes".

"Dear Vienna Moose Lodge,

On behalf of the 2018 AA Fall “Moose Stripes”, we thank you for being a generous sponsor of Vienna Little league and especially our team.  We had a great season full of laughs, fun, friendship, and of course, Wins!  We were honored to represent the Vienna Moose Lodge this season.

Neither the team nor the league could do what it does without the generous support of this caring community.  Thank you again for all you do for us, our sport, and our community.

The Vienna Moose is starting a warm blanket and clothing drive for these cold weather months.  We are asking all members that have extra, who are inclined, to please donate to this worthy cause to keep our less fortunate neighbors and friends warm this winter.

We are asking for the following items: (they can be new or gently used)

• Blankets
• Jackets any size
• Socks
• Gloves
• Heck, anything you need to keep warm!

If you play Texas Hold’Em poker with us, players will receive an extra chip card for every item donated for use during our regular tournament games.  We want to thank everyone in advance for all they do to help this cause.
