Hey everyone!  In a constant re-evaluation of lodge operations, it has been noted that some members would enjoy watching Monday Night Football at the lodge.  As it has been very slow on Tuesdays, and we have information that other close-by businesses are closed on Mondays.  We have elected to open on Mondays and close the lodge on Tuesdays.  This change takes immediate effect.  Our new hours of operations will be as follows:

• Monday:  5:00 pm to 10:00 pm
• Tuesday:  Closed
• Wednesday: 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm
• Thursday:  5:00 pm to 11:00 pm
• Friday:  5:00 pm to 11:00 pm
• Saturday: 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm
• Sunday:  1:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Note: The lodge can stay open longer hours on any given night with patron participation.  For more information please talk to your social quarters' staff.

Greetings Moosers!

We are now closing in on November and Thanksgiving.  And that means it's time for Turkey Trots.  The Vienna Moose Lodge is sponsoring the James Madison HS Band Turkey Trot this year so our logo will be on the shirts.  In addition to this, some of the members have started a run team called "Vienna Moose Lodge 1896" so feel free to register for the Fun/5k/10K Walk/Run. Get your running shoes out of the closets!

It’s October, and you know what that means.  It’s prime football season and Halloween. 

What could be better?  Well, how about we combine the two.  This Halloween is a Sunday so the Moose is holding its first-ever Trunk or Treat Tailgate!!  That's right it’s our first “TTT’ from 1-4 pm Sunday, October 31st!  Early enough that you can still take the kids Trick or Treating afterward and just late enough so it coincides with kickoff.   What do you need to do?  Well, just drive your car over and park with the trunk facing out and give out some candy (maybe a little bit before 1 pm if you can swing it).

Anyone in a costume can get treats (no age discrimination) so bring the tweens and teens!!  Anyone giving out candy will get free hearty soup from the Moose.  You do not have to give out candy.  If you want, you can just trick or treat.  But you will miss out on our Trunk contests though.  The best Halloween-decorated car wins a prize and the best Football decorated car wins a prize too, so best to participate!!😊  We will have two piñatas.  One for younger kids and one for older kids. We will have a costume contest for kids as well and more photo cutouts.  We’ll have some other fun activities for the kids as well.  What else could you ask for?  Oh right…how about a TV outside so you can watch football too?  Go inside the Moose SQ and buy some buckets of beer as well.  We’ll have a cornhole set up outside too.  It’s a tailgate!!  We can also fire up the grill if people want to…for an even better tailgate!!  And if it’s cool out, we’ll have a fire going too. 

The Moose will be open its normal hours on Sunday so during the TTT you can go into the SQ normally.  So, invite your friends/guests.  They can participate in the Trunk or Treat too!!

The Vienna Moose was out in force for the Vienna Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 2, 2021. The event was in the Town Green of Mill Street, Church Street, and Dominion Road area.  It was an amazing turnout for the town of Vienna.  They had a lot going on this day with the beer and other drinks, vendors, food, children and adult activities, and performances.  The bands for the adults and children were amazing. If you had a chance to try the Caboose Citra Session IPA I am sure you really enjoyed it.  According to Elizabeth Korondy, they had more than 20,000 in attendance!

We really did have a great turnout for this volunteer effort.  We had 14 members including 5 of your board officers volunteering!  A special thanks to the maker of our new lodge T-shirts Chris Oskuie!  We looked really good and you could not go anywhere during Oktoberfest without seeing one of us in the crowd!  We want to thank all that helped in this effort including:

Hey team, we need your help.  With all the changes that have happened in the last few months, we need your help in the kitchen.  We are actively looking for a new kitchen manager to help organize and cook during our hall and social quarters events.  But until that time that we find a manager, we need help cooking for the members.  We are putting out a volunteer signup list to help cook in October.  Please consider helping out one or two evenings, it would really help us to stay consistent in our offerings to the membership.

The lodge is having a member locker clean-out and refresh starting in two months.  We are asking if you have a locker to come in and clean out your locker at the lodge.  If you know of someone that has a locker, please let them know.  If the locker is not cleaned out by Tuesday, November 30, 2021 (Close of Business), the contents of the locker will be removed and will be forfeited to the lodge.

After the refresh of the lockers, we will notify the membership when they can come back and start renting a new locker.  There are a lot of lockers that have not been touched in years.  Please let everyone know so they can come to collect their belongings.

The Vienna Halloween Parade has been a long-standing tradition of some amazing costumes, floats, and kids having great times.  This year will be the 75th annual Halloween Parade and will take place on Wednesday, October 27 at 7:00 pm.  The Vienna Moose is calling on all its members to come to join us to walk in the parade under the Vienna Moose banner.  We wanted to have a float for the parade but did not have time to get everything done before the event.

We have created a signup sheet on SignupGenius.com for those members that want to show their Moose Pride. We are limited to 50 people and need to get there at 6 pm.  Would be nice to have a mix of men, women, and children to promote the family fraternity.

Hello, Vienna Mooser’s!

We have a ‘Stache for Charity Event starting in October and ending in November. 

Here are the rules:

• The entry fee is $20 (give to bartender) and signup your name.
• 50% goes to the winner and 50% goes to charity (charity/charities to be determined)
• Shave on Oct 1.  Take a picture as proof.
• Then start growing your facial hair (any and all)

Then on Nov 1, shave your facial hair so you are now sporting a mustache.  Again, take a picture as proof.  Style it and maintain that ‘stache throughout November.  A full goatee doesn’t count.

Common types of mustaches you can try:

• Chevron
• English
• Handlebar
• Horseshoe
• Pencil
• Walrus
• Toothbrush (eek)

Heck, feel free to change it up during November.  On Nov 30th (yep you got to keep that sucker over Thanksgiving!!) We vote at the Moose.  Time to be determined.  Decide in December that you are rocking that Stache and decide to keep it over Christmas and into the New Year!!

A reminder that Moosers are also volunteering for the Vienna Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 2.  Here’s the link: Sign-Up Genius.  This is to help with community outreach/service as well as getting some viral marketing done.  😊  There are quite a few more spots available if you haven’t signed up yet.  To clarify we are NOT having a Vienna Moose tent at Oktoberfest this year.  We didn’t have the time to set things up and were afraid we wouldn’t have enough volunteers to help with our tent as well as the required 20 for Vienna to get our tent.  So this is all for the Town of Vienna.  But next year maybe. We ordered some Vienna Moose t-shirts to wear.  If you didn’t get a chance to, please wear any Moose Lodge paraphernalia if you have any.  We plan to do another t-shirt order again soon so if you missed the first time, no worries you’ll have your chance.

Finally, if you haven’t been to the Moose lately, what the heck are you doing?  Get over there.  But seriously though we have some new things happening.  First, we have a new board, so come on down and say hello. We have a new NFL pull-tab game too.  Many have won and there aren’t too many left before the final drawing so come on in and try your hand.  Finally, we are serving new fries.  No more crinkle-cut.  We got good old straight-cut. Oh yeah!!

Hello Vienna Moosers!  Hope everyone is enjoying the great fall weather that has finally arrived.  Just a reminder that we have our Moose Lodge Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 25 from 5-9 (SQ will still be open regular hours.  Live music from Deja Blue (high-energy Blues!!) and Menu as follows:

• $12 For Bratwurst Platter (includes sauerkraut, pretzel, brownie, and potato salad)
• $10 for Hot Dog Platter (includes kid’s pretzel, brown, and tater tots), 
• $5 for just a bratwurst
• $2 for just a hot dog.  

We’ll of course be selling our normal beers as well.  We’ll also have plenty of mustard, like 16 lbs of it.

Hope to see you all there.  As the temperature drops and the music rocks, we’ll also start a fire in the firepit.  We have a couple of Oktoberfest Face Cutout Photo backgrounds for some silly pictures for the whole family and a guess the number of candies in a jar contest too.  So come dressed in your lederhosen or dirndl, get a bucket or two, and party like David Hasselhoff!!

We are trying to keep everyone up-to-date on new and proposed event planning.  If you want to help make the lodge a success, please join in all the fun.  Got a great idea for an event?  Let Steve or his committee know!

Upcoming Scheduled Events:

• Saturday, September 25, 2021 – Oktoberfest with music by Deja Blue.  Beer and food for purchase.
• Saturday, October 23, 2021 – Beltway Baggers Cornhole Tournament.  Will need several volunteers for the bar/kitchen. Expecting between 50-120 players.  Will create a sign-up genius for volunteers. (Steve will be out of town for this event).
• Wednesday, October 27, 2021 – Vienna Halloween Parade  We have a walking group.  Will create a sign-up genius for those that want to walk. Not sure if we have a number restriction. Still waiting on more details from the town.  Would like a mix of men, women, children to show we are a family fraternity.  We will wear Moose shirts, and we should try to figure out a way to carry the banner in the closet downstairs or have one made.

Proposed Events/Ideas:

• Monthly (or bi-monthly) Saturday night live music.  I’m reaching out to numerous local acts to see if there is interest in 3-6 bands having a recurring gig at the Lodge.  Inside or outside.
• Monthly (or bi-monthly) family game night/movie night (alternating?) in the banquet hall.  Families could bring some board games (or maybe the lodge can purchase a few). Set up a projector and screen, and show family-friendly movies with popcorn and food and drink specials.
• Yearly Lodge Talent/Variety Show.  Could be anything. Members sign up for a musical act, stand-up comedy, magic act, etc.  
• Spring/Fall Festival.  Outdoor kid-friendly event.  Moon bounce, face painting, petting zoo?
• Moose member golf outing/tournament 
• Yearly Chili-cook off.  
• November 50/50 mustache growing contest.  $20 entry fee.  End of November, members vote on the best mustache.  The winner gets 50% of the winnings, lodge gets 50% for endowment.
• Halloween Costume Party
• Christmas (holiday) Party

The Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest (beer festival and traveling funfair). It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a 16 to 18-day folk festival running from mid- or late September to the first Sunday in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is called d’Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresienwiese. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event.

With this in mind, we are holding our own Oktoberfest here at the lodge on Saturday, September 25, 2021, starting at 5:00 pm.  We have the beer and we have music by the Deja Blue Band.  Please invite your friends and family for what is going to be a great evening of fun and great German food.

This event is open to members and qualified guests.  Not a member, ask how to be a guest.

We just wanted to let you know we changed our hours for the fall.  As the business has not picked up on Tuesdays and Wednesdays we will be closing at 10 pm.  Now if you come in and want us to stay open longer, please get in here before 10.  The bartender has leeway to stay open an hour longer.

Hello Moose Members,

We hope you and your family had a safe & happy Thanksgiving. We've been busy at the lodge trying to provide a safe social quarters so our members can feel safe when visiting the lodge. Some actions & policy we've developed:

• Masks must be worn at all times while inside social quarters unless your eating or drinking. If you forget your mask we have them available. Gloves also available should wish to wear them
• Temps took when you enter the lodge at the bar with a sign-in sheet of every member entering the lodge
• Tables, chairs, gaming machines wiped down frequently with disinfection during open hours
• Hand sanitizer & disinfection spray available throughout the lodge

December Events:

• Saturday, Dec 12 Koolerators with Josie & Terry playing music from 5-8 regular food menu available w/fresh homemade pizza available
• Sunday, Dec 13 Breakfast from 9-12 with Santa arriving visiting the kids. Please bring your camera, we will provide social distance and do our best to help you get the best pictures
• Sunday, Dec 20  Regular breakfast 9-12
• Dec 22 -27 lodge hours may change due to the Xmas holiday. Texts & web site calendar updates will be provided should changes occur. We will be closed Xmas day Dec 25

(Updated: 11/21/2020) One of the best holidays of the year is Thanksgiving.  This year’s Thanksgiving Day will be on Thursday, November 26, 2020!  We know that this year has been a tough year for many of our lodge and community.  Would you like to have a great Thanksgiving meal without all the cleanup?  Well here is your chance!  The lodge is planning a huge meal that will satisfy the most hungry!

Our menu will include:

• Turkey
• Spiral Ham
• Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
• Green Bean Casserole
• Mac n' Cheese
• Sweet Potatoe Casserole
• Stuffing with Sausage
• Green Beans
• Cranberry Sauce
• Dinner Potato Rolls
• And Various Desserts

Our doors will open at 1:00 pm, dinner starts at 2:00 pm, and will be served until 4:00 pm.  The lodge will close at 6:00 pm this day.
