Hey everyone,
The lodge is going to be open tomorrow night for a New Year celebration. The doors open at 6:00 pm and we close at 2:00 am. Earl is cooking up some finger foods for everyone's enjoyment. So come on down if you don't have any scheduled plans yet and enjoy time with friends and other Moose family!
Important Notice: Due to illness, work, and injury tonight's board and general membership meeting has been canceled. We are sorry for the late notice.
Hey everyone, we are opening early for the Soccer game today at the lodge. If you are interested in seeing any of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 come on down and cheer with friends.
Today at 2:00 pm the US will play England!
Come cheer the home team!
Everyone, we desperately need people to sign up and help for the coach's dinner (this Thurs from 6:30 to 10 pm) and for the Turkey trot (on Sun, 11/20 at various times throughout the morning and early afternoon). We are a sponsor for the Vienna Turkey Trot. Unfortunately, a few of our regular volunteers will be unavailable so we really need people (possibly people who do not usually volunteer) to help out. It’s actually quite fun. Sign-up (and more info) for both are below.

Sat, Oct 22 we will be building and decorating our Halloween Float. The parade is Weds Oct 26 and starts at 7pm. Please check in around 6:15-6:30. If you are late they may not let you join. We are spot #43 which means we are on Berry Street. We believe on the corner of Maple and Berry but it may also be Berry and Echols. Their email directions contradicts what we say last year, hence the slight confusion. Luckily Berry isn't that long of a street.
Vienna, Past, Present, and Future (Back to the Future Style) is the theme. We really need people to sign up for costumes and float building/decorating. Currently I'm the only one signed up as a "Major" character. This is HEAVY!! This was a really fun event last year and we then all went over to the Moose for drinks after the parade!!

We hope to do an overnight pig roast like last year (but not in the brutal heat of the summer) in early(ish) Nov before Thanksgiving. No need to sleep in the car to stay "cool." Probably a overnight smoke Friday night and then a Luau Sat afternoon/evening with Live Music. More details to come but will need people to help plan this event!!
Dec 3 is the Vienna Moose Lodge's 64th Anniversary!! We'll have a Christmas Tree Lighting, Photos with Santa and a Party with Live Music that day. More details to come too but will need people to help plan this event.
The lodge is changing its hours of operation during the week. The new schedule will be as follows:
Note: These hours can change based on member participation. If a Football game is on, we may elect to stay open longer hours.
You've asked and asked and asked. We've finally heard you and we are proud to present to you...TRIVIA NIGHT!!
Our first Trivia night will be Weds, Sept 7th!!
Starts at 7:30pm. Registration starts at 7:00pm.
The lodge is hosting Mars Rodeo and having a Classic Car Show for its members and qualified guests on Saturday, August 27, 2022, starting at 6 pm. The band starts at 7:00 pm and goes until 10:00 pm.
Mars Rodeo plays original, classic, and modern rock. The group has expanded to a collection of talented musicians that include original members Nandan Kenkeremath on lead vocals and acoustic/rhythm guitar; Hollis Williams on Bass and vocals; Jim Sauer on lead guitar and vocals; and Vince Scinta on Drums. International award-winning guitar player Randy Pate frequently plays with Mars Rodeo as lead guitar and vocals. Depending on the alignment Bruce Ryan can play on bass and rhythm guitar or Arnold Bell on bass.
We already have some very nice classic cars coming this night. We invite all members to bring their classic cars to the lodge.
We will be also having some amazing food served by Chef Earl too! So please put this on your calendars today!
The simple answer to this question is yes! Now, you might have thought you were not paying sales tax at the lodge… But you have been paying sales taxes on everything you purchase in this lodge since the beginning of time. The lodge has been rolling the taxes together into one price. There are positives and negatives to doing this in the lodge. By rolling all the taxes into a single price, it makes it easier for the cashiers to make change for sales in the lodge. But there are many negatives. The lodge still needs to pay each month the Virginia Sales taxes. The lodge has been paying anywhere from $500 to $600 a month in these taxes. This is not a small bill! Also, when the price of beer, chicken wings, or any product goes up, we make less if the lodge doesn’t pass that on to the member. The lodge for many years has been reluctant to raise prices because we know the members do not like prices going up. We don’t either! I think you know by now where we are going with all of this!
So, the lodge started charging sales tax last month. We did this because the prices of the products we buy keep going up. And, we really liked having the rolled-up pricing structure. But here is the catch-22, the price we get taxed on is the price we charge at the cash register. So, if we roll the taxes into the price at the register and full price is taxable. So that means, the taxes we roll into the price at the register is now being taxed a second time! Are you confused yet? I hope not.
Now, members say the lodge is tax exempt from paying taxes. This is just not true. Lodges depending on the jurisdiction do not pay some taxes. Most lodges are tax-exempt from property taxes. But all businesses are expected to pay sales taxes on the items it sells at their place of business. In talking to Mike Stumbaugh our Moose International Territory Manager said “…All lodges pay sales taxes in the state of Virginia…” And, in talking to other businesses in the area like the American Legion in Annandale Manager Diane Ramsey said, “…We roll the taxes into the price of the items we sell. Most members think we do not pay any taxes, but this is not true…”
So, in conclusion, the reason we started passing on the sales tax to the member is simple, we could not logically keep doing business this way. Just know we strive and work hard to get you the best price on all products we sell. We also know you can choose to spend your hard-earned money anywhere and we thank you for spending them here! We hope this answers the questions that many members have been asking about this change. If you need more information please reach out to any board officer.
This just in... The Vienna Moose is holding a Community Yard Sale!
